About Waylon

Waylon’s passion for riding developed during the years he was growing up at Dreamcrest Farm in Port Perry, Ontario, an equestrian facility operated by parents, Olympians Kelly Plitz and Ian Roberts.
In 2002 at age 14, Waylon gained his first international experience at the FEI Children’s Jumper Championships in Brasilia, Brazil, where he was a member of the gold medal team.
In 2007, he brought home a silver team medal from the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he was the youngest member of the Canadian three-day team.
Waylon also represented Canada in five times at the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships, never once incurring a single cross country penalty; he won a team bronze medal at the NAYRC in 2006.
In 2008, he and Paleface, a Thoroughbred gelding owned by his mother, tackled one of the most challenging cross country courses in the world at the Rolex, Kentucky CCI**** and were one of only 10 horse and rider combinations to jump clear with no time faults.
Waylon’s riding education was furthered by training with top international riders including British show jumper John Whitaker. Recently, Waylon returned to Canada after spending two years in England working with renowned British event riders Oliver Townend and Tiny Clapham, and competing on a regular basis against some of the world’s best event riders on Europe’s top courses.
In 2009, he and his horse Myrddin’s Sebastian posted double clear rounds at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in Oxfordshire, England.
In 2011, he competed at the CIC** Greenwich Park Eventing Invitational at Greenwich Park in south-east London, held as a test event for the 2012 Olympics.
Waylon, riding Chloe Machin’s Blockbuster III, finished in 13th place and was top North American in the competition, which had riders from 16 countries.
In November 2011, Waylon thrilled the crowds at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair by claiming the Indoor Eventing Championship title with Evil Munchkin. Waylon has won the championship five times in six years, competing with four different horses.
Since returning to Canada in late 2011, Waylon has been breaking and training young horses and doing remedial work with difficult horses. Waylon also offers training to an exclusive number of riders.
Waylon is developing two of his own young event horses, Yarrow (Yogi), a Canadian Sport Horse gelding, and a Thoroughbred gelding, Be Nice to Johnny.
His goals are to continue to compete internationally, with his sights set on representing Canada at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto and at the 2016 Olympics.
